£64.00Suite Pigalle (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Satie, Erik - De Meij, Johan
Erik Satie, born in Honfleur in Normandy (France) in 1866 is undoubtedly one of the most striking personalities in the history of French music. He composed in various, often quite divergent, styles. Besides light-hearted,entertaining works he also wrote several serious compositions, among which the three ballets: Parade, Rel che and Les Aventures de Mercure. However, his piano pieces, such as Trois Gymnopedies or Gnossiennes will remain his most popular compositions. Satie cooperated with almost all the great artists of his time: Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Sergei Diaghilev, Georges Braque and composers Darius Milhaud (Le Groupedes Six) and Claude Debussy. Johan de Meij made an orchestration of three short pieces by Erik Satie: I. Petite Ouverture Danser - II. Gnossienne No.1 (1890) - III. Gambades.Duration: 8.45

£149.99Suite Provencale (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
This 4-movement suite is based on authentic folk tunes from the beautiful southern province in France: the "Provence". The composer used an harmonic language respecting the popular characteristics, but on the other hand also contains some "spicy" notes (...just like the well known "Provencal sauce"!...). The instrumentation is very colourful, paying a lot of attention to the different timbres of both brass and wood winds as well as to the percussion section. Every movement has its own character: "Un Ange a fa la crido" (= An angel brought the creed/credo) is like a bourree, "Adam e sa Coumpagnou" (= Adam and his companion) is an old love song, "Lou Fustie" (= the carpenter) a fast dance and finally "Lis Escoubo" (= a whistle tune / popular ballad) is a farandole. In the latter, the old tradition of folk musicians who play a whistle with one hand and a drum with the other hand, is clearly represented during the first presentations of the one and only theme)Although this piece is not too demanding, a well balanced band is necessary to perform it successfully. Thanks to the contrasts and the varying colours, it keeps on holding the attention.Duration: 7:15

£175.00Suite Siciliana (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Cesarini, Franco
Franco Cesarini has written this piece for concert band as a tribute to the town of Bisacquino (Palermo, Italy) of which he is an honorary citizen. The Suite Siciliana, a 7-movement piece - Intrada, Pavana, Gavotta, Barcarola, Tambourin, Siciliana, Tarantella - is characterised by contrasting rhythms and tempo, and consists of these 7 dances. The musical form, typical of the Baroque period, refers to some traditional expressions of art from the land of Sicily: ranging from the rich architecture of the Sicilian Baroque to the colourful majolica ceramics and the characteristic puppets, the "pupi", which narrate a secular tradition. A full immersion into ancient traditions of this beautiful island! Duration: 16.30
