Eye of the Hawk was inspired by the beautiful and majestic Hudson Valley. I wanted to base the piece on something that would resonate with the band who would be premiering it ... my local, exceptional, middle school band. The hawkbecame our spirit animal, and represented to me many of the qualities that are inherent in a young person of that age - bold, instinctive, elegant - a fierce creature who owns the sky. The sounds of a fire bell and whistle add to the effect in this concert march dedicated to New York Fire Department 126, who lost many members of its crew on September 11th, 2001. Feelings of courage and resolve are brought through in the music, as a very effective tribute to all the firefighters who risk their lives for others. Young people will relate to the sense of pride in the music in a very positive way!

Faber Suite - Michele Grassani

Faber is the ancient Latin name that was used to designate artisans. The Suite, which is divided into three movements, pays tribute to them, in the hope that their activities will not completely disappear. The first movement (Maestoso) represents the carpenter who, after completing his creation admires it with satisfaction. The second movement (Adagio) describes the work of the tailor: the first part is more meditative and portrays the use of needle and thread, while the second, characterized by forceful rhythmic strettos, describes the ancient and complex use of the weighted loom. The last movement (Presto), characterized by irregular rhythms and constant changes of tempo, introduces us to a blacksmith's shop full of intense and loud metallic noises.

Fable and Folk Tale - Timothy Broege

Two spirited movements evoke the mystery and excitement of good storytelling. The opening Fable features boldly profiled music interjected with spoken words - "Once upon a time..." The Folk Tale takes a simple melody through a set of brisk and often surprising variations.
