"Declaration Overture" has a five-note motive in an opening slow section, followed by a driving Allegro where the original five-note motive is put through a series of variations. This flexible arrangement allows ensembles to perform the work with as few as ten musicians providing accessibility and flexibility for numerous instrumentation needs, while still allowing a full ensemble sound.*The posted recording is based on the full band scoring but aligns with the suggested preferences for either woodwinds/strings or brass suggested in the score.

The composition Dedicace for alto saxophone was composed in 1981 to honor Adolphe Sax. The first version, written in 1974, was created during the 4th World Saxophone Congress at Bordeaux by Jacques Desloges and the 'Musique de la Police Nationale', conducted by Michel Mriot. The new version was created by the same musicians in Paris in october 1981. This work was composed for a small wind ensemble.

Composed in honor of the memory of Ray Wofford who directed the high school band in Wilmington, Ohio, for many years. His commitment to young musicians was legendary and the dramatic and majestic opening pays tribute to a life well-lived by a man who gave so much to his students. Fragments of his favorite hymn, Amazing Grace, are used throughout before the final and exhilarating close brings about a sense of joy celebrating the personality and energy he dedicated to the teaching profession.
