Symphony for the Future was originally a soundtrack written for a multimedia spectacle with film, light and laser effects. The soundtrack, which initially consisted of 4 parts, was played live by a symphonic orchestra and a pop group, in sync with the screening of a film. The assignment was to reflect a message of hope and positive enthusiasm for the future, using music and film as a mixed media. In this arrangement for wind instruments, the 4 parts come together seamlessly. Jan Rypens has succeeded in producing an excellent orchestration of the piece.

The piece is a tour-de-force for the modern concert band that explodes from the first downbeat with endless momentum and zeal before reaching its triumphant and eventually peaceful conclusion. Ever heard of Tijuana Taxi, Spanish Flea or A Taste of Honey? Even if these names do not ring a bell, everyone has certainly hummed along when hearing these pieces on the radio. These titles were made famous in the 1960s by the trumpeter Herb Alpert and his band Tijuana Brass and are still extremely popular today. This arrangement is full of surprises with exciting fragments, sparkling and catchy passages and colourful instrumentations. A part for electric guitar intensifies the swinging feeling of the piece, but is not obligatory. This arrangement will definitely get the audience in a party mood.
