Clair - Gilbert O'Sullivan

The Irish singer-songwriter Gilbert O'Sullivan possibly had his greatest success in 1972 with Clair. With its jazzy harmony, this song deviated a little from the spirit of the time. Stefan Schwalgin took the theme of Clair as a starting point, and gave the melody to the alto saxophone. His arrangement fits the tradition of solo works in which it is not so much about technical virtuosity, but rather about the sincerity and charm of the expression. Clair de Lune - Claude Debussy

Clair de Lune was originally written for piano, as the 3rd movement of the Suite Bergamasque by French composer Claude Debussy. This arrangement for trombone and wind orchestra was written at the request of Joe Alessi, principaltrombone of the New York Philharmonic and internationally renowned soloist. There is an alternative solo part included for alto saxophone.

Gilbert Tinner's Clari-Fun-Key is an exciting twomovement work for solo clarinet and concert band. The first movement is in a rock-like funk style with fast flowing melodic figures. The second movement is in a much slower lyrical bossa nova style with the clarinet showing off its warm, rich characteristic sound. A perfect piece for giving your clarinet soloist a bit of the limelight.

Claribelle - Wim Laseroms

Claribelle is fairly unique as a solo piece as rather than using one soloist it uses the whole clarinet section to play the solo part. . The composition is characterised by a fast tempo and by a theme which primarily consists of scale patterns that create a virtuoso character. Wim Laseroms wrote the piece in ABA-form with the accompaniment in the middle section having a somewhat more lyric character than that of the first and last sections. In the coda, the solo and the accompaniment join forces and conclude this short work in style with a brilliant fortissimo.
