A Jubilant Tribute - Barry E. Kopetz

Commissioned by the Orrville Performing Arts Council, Orrville, Ohio, this work was composed as a 'celebration of life---an exuberant reflection of the joy of one's existence.' True to its theme, this positive, upbeat selection is bound to be one of your band's favorites! Each section of the band has an interesting part to play and the catchy syncopated rhythm used throughout really keeps it 'rolling along.' A sensitive middle section provides an interesting contrast to the first theme. (Grade 3)

A Jubilee Celebration - Peter Goosensen

A Jubilee Celebration was commissioned by the Ursem Music Association to commemorate the occasion of their 50th anniversary. It is a composition with lots of variation and one where an important role is played by the percussion section. The Easy Flex 8 structure makes it possible for bands with smaller wind sections to achieve a grand and festive sound.

A Jupiter Fantasy (from the Planets) - Yasuhide Ito

Utilizing the melody from the central section of Holst's "The Planets: IV. Jupiter", I have exclusively written a chorus piece for an event in 1999. Based on that particular piece, a duo for piano and flute was written the same year. Later, more than a total of 30 renditions were written based on the original piece.This version of "Jupiter", arranged for the large wind band, is one of three parts of a three-part composition, which includes "Mars" and "Earth", composed in 2003 and 2005 respectively.The trumpet ad lib kicks off the central section, in which various other instruments could repeatedly perform the section, and ad lib is most welcome too.(Yasuhide Ito)

A Klezmer Karnival - Philip Sparke

Klezmer music originated in the 'shtetl' (villages) and the ghettos of Eastern Europe, where itinerant Jewish troubadours, known as 'klezmorim', had performed at celebrations, particularly weddings, since the early Middle Ages. Since the 16th century, lyrics had been added to klezmer music, due to the 'badkhn' (the master of ceremony at weddings), to the 'Purimshpil' (the play of Esther at Purim) and to traditions of the Yiddish theatre, but the term gradually became synonymous with instrumental music, particularly featuring the Violin and Clarinet. In recent years it has again become very popular and in A Klezmer Karnival Philip Sparke has used threecontrasting traditional tunes to form a suite that will bring a true karnival atmosphere to any concert.
