The Red Stone - Bert Appermont

This composition was commissioned by the Musique Municipale d'Ingwiller, for the occasion of their 150th anniversary. The source of inspiration for this work was the municipality of Ingwiller in the French region, Alsace. The title of the work refers to the many buildings there that are made of red sandstone, and to the 'Schlembe', a train connecting Ingwiller with Bouxwiller for sixty years. It consists of 4 movements, all related to the city of Ingwiller and its history. This bright and positive work offers beautiful melodic themes, slow passages perfect for working on intonation and phrasing, as well as pleasant parts for Percussion.

The Red Tower - Johan de Meij

The Red Tower was inspired by the painting of the same name (La Torre Rossa) by the Italian artist Giorgio de Chirico, and was awarded first prize in the International Composition Contest in Oman. One of the towers of the mediaeval walls of the Italian town of Soncino (home to the band for whom Johan de Meij wrote the work for) shows a remarkable resemblance to the tower in the work of De Chirico.

The Redwoods - Rossano Galante

Here is a bold and adventurous overture that works great as a concert opener. Reminiscent of an epic film score, this original composition features dynamic brass fanfares, sweeping woodwind lines and a wealth of stylistic andemotional variety. Impressive writing for mature groups. (Grade 4) (4:25)

The Relentless Warrior - John Wasson

This exciting work was conceived as a musical portrait from the viewpoint of a lone ancient warrior, determined and focused on achieving victory in battle. Providing a foundation throughout is a relentless rhythmic pulse anddriving ostinato. The meter of 7/8 provides a dramatic sense of urgency as various textures and moods are developed similar to the ebb and flow of battle. The piece concludes with a victorious major chord with the rhythmicostinato driving to the very end.
