The Phantom of Dark Hollow - Robert Sheldon

The Phantom of Dark Hollow was commissioned by the Indiana Bandmasters Association for the 2005 Indiana All-District Honor Bands. The piece was inspired by the weird and gruesome legend told about Robeson's Hills, just across the Wabash River from Vincennes, Indiana. In the midst of these hills is a deep, dark ravine, where the rays of the sun never penetrate. This place is known as Dark Hollow. (3:10)

The Phantom of the Opera - Andrew Lloyd Webber

The English composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (1948) has been able to produce one world success after another over the past five decades. The controversial musical and film Jesus Christ Superstar (1971) was followed by Evita (1976), Cats (1981), Song and Dance (1982), a combination of Variations and Tell me on a Sunday, Starlight Express (1984) and Requiem (1985). His Phantom of the Opera premiered in 1986 starring Sarah Brightman (Lloyd Webber's former wife) and Michael Crawford. The musical won both the Laurence Olivier Award and the Evening Standard Drama Award for Best Musical of 1986.

Phil Collins first burst onto the music scene in 1970 when he joined the rock band Genesis, not as their singer but as their drummer. In 1975 following the departure of singer Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins thought he would 'give it a go' at being the vocalist! Twenty years later everyone knows at least one of his hits. This highly entertaining medley features: 'Something Happened on the Way to Heaven', 'Saturday Night and Sunday Morning', 'A Groovy Kind of Love', 'Another Day in Paradise', 'Easy Lover', 'Against All Odds' and 'Sussudio'. The Picadore - John Philip Sousa

John Philip Sousa wrote this great march when he was the leader of the Marine band in 1889, and it depicts the experience of a horseman during a bullfight. In a distinctive minor key to start, this is a unique Sousa march. Arranger Andrew Balent has tamed this march down in difficulty without loosing the intent of the original. A nice choice for a warm-up march at contest or festival.
