The Miracle - Bert Appermont

This work was inspired by the 3rd/4th century legend of Margaret of Antioch. Margaret was very devout, and lived as a shepherdess in the countryside. When the city prefect Olybrius proposed to her, on the condition that she would give up her faith, she refused and was eventually put to death. To evoke the archaic early-medieval atmosphere, Bert Appermont has used two Gregorian Kyries. In addition, influences from old music (such as old modes and parallel fifths) and Carl Orff's work are present. This four movement piece is an epic symphonic poem-like work with an incredible expressiveness and is ideal for a thematic concert or a contest.

Evil people know no songs! Inspiration for this work was taken from the legend of the "Valley of the Mills", in which a traveller taught songs to the people of a village who had been put under a spell by a monk for their violation of moral standards. He brought song and prosperity back to the valley. It is this enchanting story, which shows the positive power of music, that Thomas Doss used as the basis for this splendid concert work which will be loved by all who perform it and listen to it.

The Monster Under the Bed - Robert Sheldon

What child hasn't imagined frightening creatures lurking in their rooms at bedtime? This imaginative and delightful composition helps to put a more comical and friendly face on this monster, employing a jaunty melody, whole-tone harmonies, and the use of sound-tubes that produce an eerie and "monstrous" sound when whirled over the head.
