As with the first symphony, the second symphony is not programmatic as such, but also takes its inspiration from the confrontation of man with his role in nature. Dedicated to the 2011 National Garden Show in Upper Austria, this symphony earned its subtitle Symphony in Green and explores musically the connotation of this colour as the colour of nature, of life and of hope.

Symphony No 1 for Wind Band - Solitude Standing - Stig Nordhagen

The two movements in this symphony have quite similar structure and length, and this is no coincidence. As a composer, I try to create two musical stories that comes from the same starting point and thought, but they sound and feel different. Music often describes something you cant say in words. This composer stands in the middle of the symphony, here personalized as trombone solo (or euphonium) and tries "Solitude Standing" to make a bridge between the two parts. - Stig Nordhagen -

The Great Spirit is a two part symphonic work that Ferrer Ferran dedicated to the famous Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudi. Ferran depicts various stages of the life of this ingenious architect and master of round, organic forms and shapes: from his humble beginnings to working on the Sagrada Familia, which would turn into a life-long task. Mirroring Gaudi's architecture, the musical lines of Gaudi are fluid and organic, the structure expansive, rich in colour and spellbinding, just like the buildings of the great Catalan architect.

Jan Cober is famed worldwide as a conductor for wind orchestras of renown. He also produces transcriptions for carefully selected works from the classical repertoire. The Russian composer Vasily Sergeyevich Kalinnikov (1866-1901) has never enjoyed great fame, probably due to his short life. Jan Cober discovered this work through intensive research and his transcription has given it a second life on the concert stage.
