Spring Overture - Kenneth Amis

Commissioned in celebration of renowned conductor/educator Frank Battisti's 85th birthday, Spring Overture is an energetic rondo that can serve as a rousing opener or closer to either half of a concert program. Inspired by a motif written by Maestro Battisti himself, this work is sure to please performers and audiences alike. Its closing measures even allow a conductor to feature performers of his or her choosing in brief solos.

Spring Serenade was written for Butler University Wind Ensemble's Robert Greschesky and a 2006 wind ensemble music festival hosted by the school. The work brims with lively themes, rich chorales, lyrical lines and fanfarish gestures, all celebrating the beautiful, rich colors inherent in the glorious sounds of wind instruments, says the composer.

Spring has finally arrived. The days grow longer, birds prepare to nest, trees turn green and plants begin to bloom as nature wakes up from her winter sleep. This, and the fact that the composer's third grandson was born in the spring, were the inspiration for Spring Song.
