The music is based on a monument, a torch that is symbolically being passed on by the fallen ones to the new generation. This versatile composition features a beautiful hymn and unique military sound effects in a festive and heroic style.

The Tower - Alexandre Carlin

The Tower was commisioned by the concert band of Auneau (France), for their 190th anniversary. The composer was inspired by a medieval tower standing in the city and decided to transcribe in music the life in the middle ages, the gregorian chant of the monks, a village festival, the building of the tower, step by step, and then the evocation of the battle of Auneau, one of the famous religious battles of the middle ages in France. The work ends with the regained calm, and the monks singing their gregorian chant at the end of the day.

The Toymaker's Workshop - Rebecca Jarvis

This charming holiday novelty piece opens with Bavarian-style folk melodies. We then hear a musical depiction of the toys with percussionists quickly alternating between traditional and accessory instruments while winds and brass add humor with glissandos, color punches, and imitation. Inspired by the hope, opportunity, freedom, and adventure of the formative years of the United States, The Trail West includes excerpts from selections as diverse as Promised Land, The Girl I Left Behind, The Riddle Song, and a hauntingly beautiful Dakota Sioux melody. Two fiddle tunes, The Arkansas Traveler and Old Dan Tucker, remind us of the important role music played in lifting the pioneer spirits. Finally, the African-American spiritual Swing Low Sweet Chariot represents those for whom the concepts of freedom and opportunity meant the most.
