Malcolm Arnold's 'Clarinet Concerto No. 2, Op. 115', was dedicated to Benny Goodman, and first performed by him as part of the 'Red Rocks Music Festival' with the Denver Symphony Orchestra conducted by Brian Priestman on 17 August1974. The third movement, known affectionately as 'The Pre-Goodman Rag', is an outrageous ragtime parody with a hauntingly wistful middle section. The work has now been made more widely available in this transcription for windband. This version conmtains full score and parts.

Predators are things that prey on others for their existence and come in a variety of forms, both real and imaginary. This predator is one of the scariest of all, that of the imaginary kind, and the music adds to its fearsome presence. The suspenseful sounds are dark and sinister, leading our imaginations to create a menacing image far scarier than any that exist in real life. The music evokes images of this fearsome creature as he prowls an imaginary landscape, striking fear into listeners as he searches for his next victim!

Predator - Thierry Deleruyelle

The peace of a mountain village is shattered by a dreadful rumour: whether animal or something more disturbing, a creature is said to be prowling the area. After a quiet beginning, the music builds up with tense, nervous lines: fear sets in. The soundscape becomes fantastical, almost like a Halloween night.The villagers gather to hunt down the beast, with the orchestra conveying their determination through clear and energetic writing. The chase accelerates, breathless and spectacular, up to an uncertain outcome: the creature vanishes, without anyone having seen it. The initial chorale returns, calmer but not reassuring. The village regains its tranquillity, while retaining the memory of a mystery that has never been solved.
