La Morisque from The Danserye - Tielman Susato

Every young musician should begin experiencing different historical styles early in their development. La Mourisque gives them the chance to perform in a homophonic style from the renaissance.This arrangement is an adaptation of Susato's original score from 1551. Some changes have been made to facilitate voice-leading in individual parts. Cadential harmonies have been changed to reflect modern expectations.

La Mourisque - Tielman Susato

Tylman Susato (approximately 1500-1561) was an accomplished Flemish composer, musician and music publisher. He composed numerous works and published several collections, among them Danserye (1551), the third volume of his Musyckboexken, which contained his own four-voice airs and dances. Several of these were inspired by traditional Flemish airs. Renaissance scholar Manu Mellaerts has created a graceful arrangement of the most famous pieces from La Mourisque.

Soaring melodies are presented in reduced ranges for young wind musicians, while percussionists explore unique and colorful instrumentation. This work will be perfect for Halloween or Dia De Los Muertos celebrations.
