This work was commissioned by the Baptist Preparatory School Band of Little Rock, Arkansas, Mrs. Lindsey Leggitt, director. The work is dedicated to that school and the 2016 graduating class of the Baptist Prep Band Program. This musical work for concert band is based on the hymn Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus with some additional material created for transitions and unity. The piece is written in the style of classic hymn song settings for band and should be played with careful attention to expression and balance.

In Storm and Sunshine was one of his earliest works, and it remains his most popular work to this day. In tantum lux (The only light) was written as a memorial and celebration honoring the life of a music educator and her faith, who taught in a small school her entire career and persevered through the challenges and unique demands that teaching small school bands present. In the Bleak Mid-Winter - Gustav Holst

Christina Rossetti wrote the words to this famous Christmas carol in 1872 in response to a request from the magazine Scribner's Monthly for a Christmas poem. They were set to music by Gustav Holst (1874-1934) for inclusion in the first edition (1906) of The English Hymnal, edited by his life-long friend, Ralph Vaughan Williams. Philip Sparke has carefully arranged the beautiful melody into this delightful version for concert band. A must for any Christmas concert.
