An Irish Legend - Ed Kiefer

An Irish Legend contains original melodies in an Irish style, written to evoke the sounds of the emerald isle offereland. The piece is in traditional ABA form, beginning with a lilting Irish jig, then a more lyrical and slow second theme. After returning to the jig, it ends with a climactic section where both themes are played together. It sounds much more difficult than it plays. The piece is exciting and will be well within the capabilities of students at this grade level.

An Irish Legend - Joseph Eidson

An Irish Legend uses the traditional Irish folk song The Minstrel Boy as the melodic material in this piece. The inspirational and emotional lyrics portray the loss of several friends in the 1798 rebellion of the United Irishmen. One of the lasting messages of this song is freedom from slavery and tyranny - a powerful message that has touched many people fighting for their country. The sense of longing, loss, and triumph found in the lyrics is reflected in the somber and lyrical style of this setting for concert band.

An Irish Lullaby - Stephen Bulla

What can be more charming than a comely Irish folk melody? This is music that allows the band to play in the rubato style, with much room for expression. Found in an old British publication and simply called "Irish Air," this endearing arrangement is a rhapsodic treatment that takes fragments of the melody and develops them into a large symphonic work. The freedom of tempi allows you to work with your band in a sensitively conducted way that only a beautiful piece like this will allow.There is always room on a concert program for at least one lush, melodic contrast piece. An Irish Party In Third Class is the music taken from one of the most memorable moments in the motion picture Titanic - the Irish dancing scene in the steerage section of the ship. The music for this scene was provided by the group Gaelic Storm.Your concert band will love the energy of this version, which features the woodwind section throughout.
