£131.00Notes from the Road - Franco Cesarini
"May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds." - Edward AbbeyNotes from the Road was commissioned to Franco Cesarini by the music Federation of the Canton of Thurgau, Switzerland, as compulsory piece for the second category of the Canton Festival in 2023. The piece is written in the typical form of an Italian overture, with the sequence of veloce-lento-veloce tempi. Reflections on life and the street as its metaphor were the driving elements in composing this piece. The way represents a symbol characteristic to many cultures, so much so that the verb "to walk" or the word "path" indicate a way of being in life and of fulfilling oneself. "Making one's way" means affirming oneself; "Having a way" indicates one's own and personal approach. The road is the most beautiful metaphor of life: there is a departure, a destination, and in the middle lies a path that is sometimes winding, with challenges to overcome and directions to take.An introspective piece, an invitation to each of us to reflect on our own "path".

The Last Chivalrous Knight - Richard Summers
Knights in shining armor, damsels in distress and jousting come to mind when you hear this original composition from composer Richard Summers. Students are intrigued by the music of the Medieval Times, and it has crept its way into many video game themes and epic sports themes. This piece brings it all into a format for young bands to enjoy. Richard has provided some nice modal writing and excellent counterpoint to give it the flavor of the time period. Andante from the Surprise Symphony - Franz Joseph Haydn
"He alone has the secret of making me smile, and touching me to the bottom of my soul," said Mozart about "Papa" Haydn and his music. The "Surprise" Symphony (No.94), incidentally written during the final year of Mozart's short life, has become one of Haydn's most memorable works.Since this symphony was written during the zenith of the Classical period, Timothy Johnson's skillful arrangement gives you a perfect opportunity to teach your young band "lightness" and control as essentials of Classical style playing. You can introduce the concept of making the staccato notes "separated" instead of just "short" in order to best approximate the sound of the times. It's a naturalselection for your next festival or concert! Why not give your young band a chance to meet "Papa" Haydn through this charming arrangement?

£121.00Turkish Fragments - Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov
Pursuing his interest in the Turkish peoples, the composer created this work for orchestra in 1930. It is a richly melodic suite notable for its characteristically oriental turns of phrase. This work is presented in four movements: Caravan, which depicts a steady journey over rolling sand dunes; At Rest, alternately tranquil and spirited; Night, serene in nature with a slight touch of mystery; and Festival, a dance-like finale with unyielding exuberance. All the movements use material from folk music of the region combined with a wonderful pallet of wind-instrumental colors. An exotic and colorful Turkish fabric in music.

Catalyst - Rob Romeyn
Driving rhythms, contemporary harmonies, stark contrasts, and multi-meter are the "Catalyst" for excitement and intrigue in this epic programmatic work by Rob Romeyn. We begin with an explosion of rhythmic energy and motion. From here, an intriguing melodic theme is introduced amid a lighter texture. As the music develops, this melodic theme is expanded upon rhythmically and through a variety of harmonic variations. A secondary theme enters with a light and almost transparent quality, offering an opportunity to showcase expressive musicality in a mature setting. Further development then ensues, with the music growing ever stronger and stronger, with the emotion practically leaping off of the page. We end with a hair-raising contemporary sounding ending that is sure to have your audience on their feet. Do not miss this outstanding addition to the repertoire for concert or festival use!
