Symphonic Variations - Oliver Waespi
This work is dedicated to Fritz Neukomm and was created at the MidEurope Festival in 2004 by the Schweizer Armee Spiel. The basic theme of this work is founded on a series of chords which are played in an archaic order. The variations that follow are not only musical variations of the theme, but also create a separate line that runs in parallel as a result of the choice of instruments. This piece is undoubtedly a real challenge for any ambitious orchestra and is extremely suitable for competitions and prestigious concerts.

Marching Winds - Philip Sparke
Marching Winds was commissioned as the set piece for the Youth Festival Singapore 2010, a competition for all the youth orchestras in Singapore. As the title indicates, it is written in the form of a march. The opening fanfare leads directly to the modal main theme. It is contrasted by a second, legato theme, which builds to the climax of the piece. The main theme makes an appearance again before the piece comes to a finish.

The Glacier Express - Larry Neeck
"The Glacier Express" is a famous Swiss excursion train that has traveled through the Swiss countryside between Zermatt and St. Moritz since 1930. Larry Neeck's composition is clearly descriptive of the train's journey and the spectacular scenery that passes throughout mountains, glaciers, lakes, tunnels and quaint Swiss villages. Lots of musical contrasts including a nice trumpet solo and interesting parts for every section! Ample percussion parts are sure to keep even a large "herd" of drummers both interested and involved.
