The brief was for a piece to celebrate the City of London. The first performance was given by The Regimental Band of Her Majesty's Coldstream Guards under their music director Major Graham O. Commemorations was written during Martin Ellerby's tenure as Composer-in-Residence to the Regimental Band of Her Majesty's Coldstream Guards. The idea behind this particular commission was to write a work commemorating various events in the Regiment's history. The resulting work was an amalgam of such pieces written for specific occasions - hence the work can be performed as a whole or as individual movements. The movements are: Fanfare and Royal Procession; Hougoumont (March in Memoriam); Jacob the Goose (Scherzando Militaire); Elegy, 1944 (Anthem for a Regiment); Blue, Red, Blue (March in Celebration). Duration: 17:30. Recorded on Polyphonic Concert Band CD QPRM158D Legacy of Dreams.
