    Rhapsody - Arpad Balazs

rpd Balzs (*1937) composed the first version of Rhapsody for Hungarian cimbalom and concert band in 2001; in 2021, on the encouragement by a Japanese marimba player he arranged the solo part for marimba, and therefore the opportunities for the work to be played have significantly widened. The Rhapsody follows the one-movement structure created by Franz Liszt. The beginning solo section of the cimbalom (or marimba) returns before the coda as a pillar of the form. The composition, which can be divided into five sections, develops and works with a Lydian tetrachordal motif (G-A-B-C sharp) in different characters, stretching the span of music from a simple, children's song-like appearance to an obstinate ritual dance. In conclusion, the Rhapsody is a passionately emotional lyric orchestral poem rich in colours and characters, which has a place on the repertoire of every concert band playing quality music.

    Ungarsk marsj - Hector Berlioz

The "Rkczi March" (Hungarian March) was the unofficial state anthem of Hungary before Ferenc Klcsey wrote the Himnusz which is today the official national anthem of Hungary. The first version of this march-song was probably created around 1730 by one or more anonymous composers, although tradition says that it was the favorite march of Francis Rkczi II. That early version called back Francis Rkczi II to save his people. It was very popular in the 18th century but in the 19th century the more refined Rkczi March became prevalent. Hector Berlioz included the music in his composition "La Damnation de Faust" in 1846, and Franz Liszt wrote a number of arrangements, includinghis Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15, based on the theme. The march gave its name to a 1933 Austrian-Hungarian feature film - Rakoczy-Marsch This arrangement is based on Berlioz instrumentation and phrasing from his Hungarian March, but in the form of the 19th century Rkczi March

A Trombone Family Reunion (Trombone Trio with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fillmore, Henry - Glover, Andrew

Between 1908 and 1929, Henry Fillmore composed a series of fifteen novelty pieces featuring the trombone section with band. These became collectively known as "The Trombone Family," with names and subtitles connecting them in sort of a musical genealogy. The three most popular family members, "Lassus Trombone," "Miss Trombone," and "Shoutin' Liza Trombone" join together in a whimsical way for "A Trombone Family Reunion," along with some "shirttail relatives" depicted by famous trombone excerpts from the symphonic repertoire. Included are quotations from "Blue Bells Of Scotland," "Symphony No. 4" by Tchaikovsky, "Tannhauser Overture," "Second Hungarian Rhapsody," "Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin," "Hallelujah Chorus," "Ride of the Valkyries," "Turkey In The Straw," and a few other surprises.
