The Irish Blessing - Stephen Bradnum

Stephen Bradnum writes... The Irish Blessing is presented here for wind band in what I regard as its 'ideal' scoring. This has been tried and tested in performance, found to be successful, and should be aimed for if possible. Small size notes may be omitted if the required tone quality and intonation cannot be achieved. The solo oboe part in particular may pose problems, and this part is provided transposed for Bb Soprano Saxophone (or, of course, Clarinet) if preferred. The ? ute parts given in small notes in bars 16-20 may be omitted at the conductor's discretion, but they should not be played an octave higher. The opening quartet may be adapted - within reason - to suit individual needs (a brass quartet perhaps?). Some suggested cues are provided, but the main aim should be to establish a balanced ensemble from which the full band sound can emerge. The Irish Blessing May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sunshine warm up on your face, The rains fall soft upon your ?elds. And until we meet again, And until we meet again. May the God that loves us all Hold you in the palm of his hand. Amen, Amen, Amen. Duration: 3 minutes USA Grade 3

A Gaelic Blessing (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul

There are Gaelic and old Irish blessings for every occasion whether a funeral, wedding or birthday. While many of these old blessings petition or request the help or intervention of God in some way, it does not always mean that the person saying them regards him or herself as being very religious. These blessings, whether in Gaelic or English, were the way Irish people had of expressing hope, desire for a better future and solidarity with their family, friends and neighbours. This simple arrangement offers the choices of performance with combined band and chorus, band alone, woodwinds alone, or brass alone. It also includes optionally three tolls of chimes at the beginning and ending, which make it a perfect tribute for commemoration.
