A Quiet Moment (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

A Quiet Moment was written in memory of James Philip Krofta, a highly respected American conductor who died in the year 2006. This calm, wilful composition of Philip Sparke is equally at home on the concert platform as in the contest arena or at significant remembrance events when a quiet moment is required.Duration: 4:30

Soliloquies From A Quiet Place - Peter Meechan

soliloquyn."An act of speaking one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers"During summer 2018 I took a vacation at a family cabin on the banks of Buffalo Pound Lake in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is a beautifully isolated location, which provides for a near perfect view of the night skies. Gradually, as your eyes adjust to the dark, more and more stars reveal themselves to you. Time seems to stop, and you can't help reflecting in every way possible. As insignificant as viewing the heavens like this can make you feel, you also know your fleeting view is a unique moment, a moment you will never see end.One night, having sat outside until the sun began to rise, I went back inside and wrote a short chorale at the piano. It didn't have a place in any piece I was writing at that time but knew those few measures of reflection would find their place in a composition in the future - and it is from those few measures that Soliloquies From A Quiet Place grew.Told through the two trumpet soloists, these are my reflections and thoughts from that night and many others sat gazing in to the heavens.Soliloquies From A Quiet Place was written for soloists Ryan Anthony and Jens Lindemann, conductor Jerry Junkin, and The University of Texas Wind Ensemble. It is dedicated, with enormous gratitude, to Dr. Brian Berryman.Peter Meechan 2019

A Vision of the First Light was commissioned by the Kitami Wind Ensemble, as a commemorative work for their 30th Anniversary. Satoshi Yagisawa composed this piece to conjure "Illusion seen through the dawn" of Hokkaido. The work starts with a quiet and beautiful introduction describing the landscape. Custom Ballad - Peter Kleine Schaars

This is the fourth movement of the five-part suite 'Nomenclatura' commissioned by the Dutch Customs Band 'Douane Harmonie Nederland'. This movement is a quiet ballad, that could be considered as a quiet moment in the suite, introduced by the woodwinds (especially the English horn) and melodic percussion whereafter the trumpet, the horn and the saxophone sections join, before the lower brass and percussion completes the group.A fine tune and a well-balanced orchestration are the biggest assets of this nice ballad.

    Citadel - James Barnes

Citadel was composed to commemorate the 150th anniversary of The University of Kansas (1865 to 2015.) It begins with optional offstage chimes (one or two sets [opt.]) to depict the daily ringing of the bells in KU's World War II Memorial Campanile. Trumpets introduce a fanfare-like figure that quickly evolves into the opening theme of the work. As the music settles and becomes softer, a saxophone choir introduces a slower, more pensive middle theme intended to describe the university's academic nature. A quiet moment at the end of this section hints at the famous Rock Chalk Chant in solo horn before the chimes and fanfare return to end the work in a final, dramatic outburst of sound and color.

A Manx Lullaby (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

A quiet, gentle piece dedicated to the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra. In February 2014 Rob Wiffin went to the Isle of Man to conduct a workshop with the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra. The year is particularly significant - Island of Culture 2014 is the largest cultural celebration in the history of the Isle of Man. This simple lullaby does not contain any traditional Manx material but was written specifically for the wind orchestra. It is in familiar ABA form but the middle section adds just a moment of piquancy and tension before the return of the original theme dissipates it.Duration: 3.12

Symphony No.2: The Big Apple (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Meij, Johan

An ode to New York. The Big Apple is a musical representation of the spirit, the glamour and the unfriendliness of one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Listening to this symphony is as exciting as a visit to Manhattan. The listener is never allowed a moment's peace, even the tranquil slow passages are accompanied by an ostinato rumbling in the background. As in the City there is never a quiet moment.
