Howl's Moving Castle - Joe Hisaishi

The Allure of Dawn (Image Symphonic Suite)2. Wandering Sophie (Soundtrack)3. The Courageous Cavalry (Soundtrack)4. The Boy Who Swallowed the Star (Soundtrack)5. The Merry-go-round of Life (Soundtrack)To maximize the wind band's unique sound and function, I have taken some liberty in spreading active roles throughout the ensemble. Porco Rosso - Joe Hisaishi
From the 1992 Japanese animated film about an Italian World War I flying ace who, for a wartime misdeed, was transformed into an anthropomorphic pig. The flamboyant post-war story of Porco Rosso (Crimson Pig) battling air pirates is full of intrigue and romance, and the film's diverse and lush soundtrack is one of the more rare Studio Ghibli scorings. Mr. Tomoki Ubata, (band director at Ina Gakuen Sr. High School) assisted with medley design as we both became intrigued with the music. The sixth song, Kyouki ~ hishou (insanity & soaring), appearing on Joe Hisaishi's album "My Lost City", is often performed for his concerts. Due to its complexity I am sure this is one of Hisaishi's favorites. I also added the French chanson "Le Temps des cerises" (Antoine Renard) that Madame Gena sings in the film. This is my favorite of all chansons; I was happy to include this bittersweet, beautiful melody. The following themes are contained in the arrangement:1. Le Temps des cerises2. Jidai no kaze (Wind of the Times)3. Mammaito4. Pikkoro no onnatachi (Women of Piccolo)5. Porco e Bella6. Kyouki ~ hishou (Insanity & Soaring)7. Tooki jidai o momomede (Seeking for Far Times)You can hear how the story folds without a screen.(Kazuhiro Morita)

£209.99Machu Picchu - Satoshi Yagisawa
Commissioned for the Ensemble Liberte Wind Orchestra, Kawaguchi City, 30th Anniversary ConcertExplaining the significance of Machu Picchu begins with remembering the Incan empire at its zenith, and its tragic encounter with the Spanish conquistadors. The great 16th century empire that unified most of Andean South America had as its capital the golden city of Cuzco. Irresistible to Francisco Pizarro, while stripping the city of massive quantities of gold, in 1533 he also destroyed Cuzco's Sun Temple, shrine of the founding deity of the Incan civilization. While that act symbolized the end of the great empire, 378 years later an archeologist from Yale University, Hiram Bingham, rediscovered "Machu Picchu", a glorious mountaintop Incan city that had escaped the attention of the invaders. At the central high point of the city stands its most important shrine, the Intihuatana, or "hitching post of the sun", a column of stone rising from a block of granite the size of a grand piano, where a priest would "tie the sun to the stone" at winter solstice to insure its seasonal return. Finding the last remaining Sun Temple of a great city inspired the belief that perhaps the royal lineage stole away to this holy place during Pizarro's conquest. After considering these remarkable ideas I wished to musically describe that magnificent citadel and trace some of the mysteries sealed in Machu Picchu's past. Three principal ideas dominate the piece: 1) the shimmering golden city of Cuzco set in the dramatic scenery of the Andes, 2) the destructiveness of violent invasion, and 3) the re-emergence of Incan glory as the City in the Sky again reached for the sun.(Satoshi Yagisawa)

Applause! - Takamasa Sakai
This piece was inspired by a variety of music such as Broadway musicals, French cancan, and circus marches. A special rhythm pattern called "Ipponjime" (or "Sanbonjime") is played by the percussion (3 + 3 + 3 + 1) in the first four measures. This is how people freely clap their hands when ceremonies or parties end in Japan. This custom of clapping hands reflects Japanese people's spirit to readily move on to the next step. As the infectious work comes to its exciting conclusion every player shouts "yeah!"ensuring you will definitely hear rapturous applause!
