Powerful unisons open this piece and continue as the trumpets state the heroic melody. A countermelody is then placed over this in the woodwinds. Alternating between marcato and legato sections, this is a good piece for teaching contrasting styles. Students will love the minor key and the power of playing tutti. Alpine Meadow - By Steve Hodges

This lyrical piece provides the young band with many opportunities for expressive playing. A simple, memorable melody sets the stage for interesting harmonic and textural treatments by all sections of the ensemble. An effective transition builds to a seamless modulation which gradually diminishes to a quiet conclusion. Alpine Meadow is great teaching tool for phrasing, articulation and dynamics. (3:00)

Alternate Time - By Mark D. Slater

As indicated by the title, "Alternate Time" is an exciting and energetic way to explore constantly changing time signatures. Based on a bouncy theme, this composition also features chromatic passages, running scalar lines, and effective percussion scoring. A wonderful teaching piece, it is also great fun for the audience! Alvamar Overture - By James Barnes

Gigantic in structure, with fabulously rich and lavishly orchestrated thematic material, this work ranks on a grand scale within the repertoire of the modern-day concert band. Every line is interesting and every player is equally challenged in this bravura work. Amazed - Arr. Victor López

This lovely ballad made popular by Lonestar features a melodic trumpet solo and a duet for trumpet and alto saxophone. The familiar groove is there in the rhythm section. This moving arrangement will have the audience singing along. A sure winner for your pop concert.

Amazing Grace - Traditional / arr. Jack Bullock

Classic beauty is so often enhanced by simplicity. This arrangement is written for the beginning band level, but we suspect that this stunning setting will be used by band directors at all educational levels. This is a hymn scoring with universal appeal.

Amazonia - By Chad Taylor

Take your audience on a voyage to the vast, unexplored areas of the Amazon Rainforest, where most of the world's isolated tribes dwell. Through the use of call-and-response, repetitive rhythmic grooves, and percussion instruments native to the region, this piece was written to celebrate the diverse and lively music culture that exists within the indigenous groups who call the Amazon Rainforest home. America - Land of Liberty - Arr. Steve Hodges

Beginning with a strong introduction by the trumpets, this arrangement provides three effective settings of America. The first two settings are at a moderate march tempo in 4/4 time featuring the clarinets and trumpets, followed by a lush presentation by the low brass and woodwinds. A lively flute countermelody accompanies the first setting. The final presentation begins with a brass chorale in the traditional 3/4 meter that leads to a stirring conclusion featuring a flowing woodwind countermelody. A short rallentando leads to a spirited return of the original march countermelody that brings the piece to an exciting conclusion.
