Some time ago Charles Hine, a dear friend, asked me 'Isn't it about time you wrote a Czardas?' It wasn't such a silly idea. I'd studied violin as a child and having learnt numerous show pieces in that style I felt quite at home with the genre. Later in my youth I was lucky enough to work occasionally as accompanist to a lovely lady & singer Eve Boswell, who was partly Hungarian, and was generous enough to give me further insight into the nature of Czardas. Whilst the Wind Ensemble is not the instrumentation one might expect for such a piece the form is albeit rather more long-winded than some of the fiddle 'lollypops'.' - Hart, Paul.

Christina Rossetti wrote the words to this famous Christmas carol in 1872 in response to a request from the magazine Scribner's Monthly for a Christmas poem. They were set to music by Gustav Holst (1874-1934) for inclusion in the first edition (1906) of The English Hymnal, edited by his life-long friend, Ralph Vaughan Williams. The piece is in three movements, which are played without a break.

The picturesque town of Mandalen lies amid snow-covered mountains and scenic fjords on the west coast of Norway. MANDALEN LANDSCAPES was commissioned by and written for Mndalen Skule og Ungdomskorps (Mandalen School and Youth Band) for a major concert in November 2003 at the instigation of its conductor, John Hudson, a long-time friend of composer Philip Sparke.Sparke set out to capture the beauty of the area in music and the piece opens with an evocation of the crisp, clear air of a Norwegian morning. After this introduction, the main theme is stated on clarinets and saxophones. A central bridge section takes the listener through several moods until the brass reintroducethe main theme under a woodwind descant. Material from the introduction brings the work to a peaceful close.

The aria 'Kuda, kuda v udalilis' is sung by Lensky, fianc of Olga and friend of Onegin in the second act of Tschaikowsky's opera Eugene Onegin: Lensky challenged Onegin to a duel in response to Onegin's advances on Olga. Now, on the morning of the duel, Lensky looks back on his happy youth as he waits for Onegin to arrive. He realizes that he will probably die in the duel and that he does not particularly care if he does. The only great loss in his death would be that he would never see Olga again.

BlimE! is a campaign by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) which goal is to promote friendship and care for each other. The slogan is "Say hello, be a Friend!" Each year, a new song is released together with a dance. The purpose is to strengthen the cohesions at schools. The BlimE! Flicien Doyen, the President of the Tornacum Royal Choir Circle of Tournai (Belgium) and a close friend of the composer commissioned this Mass. Missa Tornacum was originally composed for mixed choir and organ, gave a memorable performance of thepiece in the Chartres Cathedral in France.Although it does not include the Credo, the work is composed according to the traditional structure of a Mass in five parts : Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, and Ite missa est. En the first two parts, adialogue is created between the choir and the band. It is followed by the Sanctus cycle ("Sanctus" - "Hosanna" - "Benedictus"), which is remarkable for the contrasts between the tone colorscharacterizing each of its three parts. The fourth part,Agnus Dei, takes on a tone of serene intimacy. A free counterpoint draws this section to a close by fading into an almost imperceptible quietness. Ite missa est begins with a series of imitations, which develop into a majestic and cheerful passagemarking the end of the Mass. Choir parts are available separately.
