Pierius Magnus is a historical figure from the Friesland area of Holland. He was a farmer who became a resistance fighter against Dutch oppressors in around 1500. Whether Magnus was a hero or barbarian is still debatable, but composer Jan de Haan was fascinated by the exciting story and let it fuel his imagination. The protagonist is introduced with a capricious theme which is followed by "De Arumer Swarte Heap," the troops who took to the battlefields against the Dutch. An eerie calm takes over moments before Pier and his troops let their battle cries sound. The work ends as the disillusioned Pier retreats. A concert work overflowing with excitement!

Charanga For Trumpet - Boudewijn Cox
Boudewijn Cox is chiefly known as a Flemish composer in the modern classical music scene, but he has his roots in jazz.Charanga was a composition assignment from the "De Hoop" Ossendrecht music association and was created by Frank van der Poel in November 1999. Frank van der Poel, to whom this work is dedicated, is a well-known trumpet player and a renowned soloist who specialises in light music. He is also very esteemed as a big band lead trumpet.

The Book of Urizen is a work for concert band, solo soprano, and a male narrator in which sound collages of religious expressions are used. The piece is inspired by the compelling visionary poem of the same name (which the poet illustrated himself) by the Englishman William Blake (1757-1827), who occupies a unique position in western literature and the visual arts. He was not just a poet and a writer, but he was also a graphic artist, a painter, an illustrator, a spiritualist, a religious visionary, and a mystic philosopher. For the performance of this work, a professional sound system, including two microphones and a CD player, is needed. The three sound collages are three separate tracks on the enclosed CD and can be played easily at the right moment.The Book of Urizen bears resemblance to Genesis and Exodus, of which the contents form the basis of the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faith. Blake adhered to the principle that all religions are in fact one, and that deities reside in human beings. In The Book of Urizen this is represented in "The Net of Religion," which is spanned over the earth by Urizen. The sound collages, compiled by Jacob de Haan in the studio, find their origin in Jerusalem, the Holy City, where the afore-mentioned faiths come together.The first two movements, The Vision and The Creation, are available in a separate set.

Remembrance Day (Totengedenken) is a chorale-like piece in memory of those who have died in service. Jacob de Haan composed this work for a concert by the symphonic wind orchestra Symphonic Winds, which he conducted in Germany on Volkstrauertag (national remembrance day). The composition is based on a text from Totengedenken (Commemoration of Those Who Have Died). This narrative text is provided in four languages, and is intended to be spoken (using a microphone) ad libitum during the performance. Bleak Forest is a piece for smaller concert bands and offers the musicians above all space to improve their sound and their effect playing. The technical requirements are therefore deliberately kept low. With this piece, the composer won the VLAMO International Composition Contest 2022.Thematically, the work is influenced by the composer's childhood memories. In his hometown there was a dark and mysterious forest, that seemed to the children in the small village to be magical. Without a reasonable explanation, every trip into the woods was exciting and somewhat terrifying. There were tales of dangerous animals, which can be heard at the beginning of the piece, as well as magical beasts. The magic of the forest is depicted musically from bar 70 in the andante section. The snapping of the fingers represents single raindrops. From bar 99 onwards, we hear the trek home, with the occasional moments of trepidation as the children spook each other with their fanciful tales. In the end, though, we arrive safely at home because after all, magical beasts only exist in fairy tales... don't they?Andreas Ziegelbck studied music education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and history at the Paris Lodron Universitt, Salzburg. In addition to his studies, he trained in ensemble conducting for wind orchestra with conductor and composer Thomas Doss. It was Doss who sparked Ziegelbck's interest in composing. In 2021, Andreas Ziegelbck completed his composition studies with Johannes Maria Staud. In 2020, he took part in a brass band composition masterclass in Bern with Oliver Waespi, followed by a premiere by the Swiss Army Brass Band.
