    New Ways - Hermann Pallhuber

New Ways was written for the dedication of the new high-speed train line in Austria. The 'New Ways' of the title is a comparison between a journey in an ultramodern train with that of a ride in an old steam locomotive. The two opposites are presented in two contrasting movements: on the one hand, the shunting of wagons, the whistle of the engine and the leisurely journey; while on the other, the sheer speed, energy and absolute mobility. A fine musical contrast!

    Funtango - Chris Sharp

This tongue-in-cheek approach to the classic tango will keep your percussion section busy with lots of Spike Jones type comic effects, including siren whistle, bulb horn, slapstick, vibraslap, guiro, and clapping. To aid with performance flexibilty, an alternate optional snare drum part is provided for more accomplished players. This is one "fun tango" that literally has all the bells and whistles! (2:10)

Celebration for Band - John Brakstad

Many Norwegian bands have grown up around factories, but Norwegian factories are often located in the countrysides - by a fjord or lake, by a river or waterfall that provided power for the factory. The factory was the foundation for the existence of the community, but it was also essential for the community's cultural life, choirs, bands etc. (cp. British brass bands and mining). "Celebration for band" tries to give a picture of the environment and life around a band like this, with both factory noise and the natural world (Pastorale), as well as the challenges and development of the band itself. The composition is built up of five connected episodes: - Fanfare and Prologue (concludes with a feeling of the untamed power of the river) - Pastorale I: " At the river" - Intermezzo: " The Factory" (starts with the opening of water for the turbines: snare drum. Factory whistle and bell call to work, and the spinning and weaving machinery starts up.) - Pastorale II: " Summer evening on the fjord." - Finale: " Challenge and Progress"

When Santa's Away, The Elves Will Play! - Matt Conaway

Like any boss on a deadline, the big guy in red can be a harsh taskmaster, and the elves in his workshop have had enough. They work against a cynical soundtrack of jingling bells until "The Man" steps out, giving way to a raucous celebration (and their first break in weeks.) As abruptly as it begins, the party stops when the boss's whistle cuts through, and the grumbling elves return to their monotonous assembly of the year's toys. Great fun for beginning and developing bands!
