    Fantastic Creatures - Georges Sadeler

Fantastic Creatures take us into a world of fantasy, mythology and legends. These fascinating creatures possess qualities that transcend the boundaries of reality. In this work, three such creatures are described in all their splendour and mysticism: The centaur, a fusion of horse and man, epitomises the grace and strength of nature. The mermaid, half fish, half woman, enchants those who meet her with her beauty and mysterious nature. And the Phoenix, an immortal bird, symbolises eternal renewal and hope.

    Leviathan - Franco Cesarini

The leviathan, a demoniacal sea monster that appears as a dragon or serpent, is considered in the Old Testament to be the embodiment of evil. The defeat of the demon is prophesied in Isaiah 27:1: "On that day the Lord will punishwith his cruel sword, his mighty and powerful sword Leviathan that primeval sea-serpent, that writhing serpent Leviathan, and slay the monster of the deep ."The composer's main goal is to create an atmosphere thick with agitation, tumult and extreme tension rather than express specific events musically. The monstrous form of the leviathan slowly emerges from the abyss of primordial sounds at the start of the piece, recalling the eternal conflict betweengoodand evil.

So nimm denn meine Hnde - Friedrich Silcher

This celebrated song is based on a poem by Julie Hausmann (1826-1901), a Latvian teacher who was probably blind. The text draws on her personal experience and unshakeable faith in God, death and eternal life. The melody by Friedrich Silcher is written in a simple and delicate style but also draws on the grand romantic tradition of Wagner and Bruckner. This arrangement can also be performed with a mixed choir. The choir parts are in German.

Bengal Lights - Olav Anton Thommessen

The richness of the music of the sub-contient is an eternal inspiration, showing music to be the fusion and balance of opposites: improvisation and calculation, freedom and form, rhythm and melody.Indian musical thinking has acted through thecenturies as a model for articulating thought through sound.I have based my piece on an Indian temple dance in which a short motivic nugget generates garlands and trails of sonic colour. The raga-form is maintained, with anintruduction comprizing a presentation of the scale-material, out of which the sonic nugget is forged. The work was premiered by The Norwegian Navy Band Bergen conducted by Peter Szilvay in 2007.This newversion was edited by thecomposer in 2015.

The Quest for Victory - Wilco Moerman

The Quest for Victory sets to music the adventures of a superhero who is locked in an eternal struggle against the forces of evil. The piece begins with the statement of the superhero's theme. We then hear such emotions as jealousy, resentment and hatred, and witness a fierce battle but again and again--and with a happy ending--the majestic hero's theme sounds. As colourful and exciting as a comic book movie!

    Salutation - Eriks Esenvalds

Salutation was originally composed for a cappella choir to a poem by Bengali poet and musician Rabindranath Tagore (1861 1941). The music takes up the spiritual message of the poem, that we live our lives in one salutation to God ending back in an eternal home. Lux Aeterna (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts)

Otto M. Schwarz was asked by a friend to compose a chorale for the funeral of his child. Lux Aeterna (The Eternal Light) is actually part of the requiem mass, but in this composition, there is no reference to the original Latin text. People who recount near-death experiences often report a bright light. The music moves back and forth between passages that are sad, optimistic, and imploring in nature, posing questions that cannot be answered. The end of the piece comes, however, with a conciliatory major chord that reflects the calm and warmth of this light that promises redemption.Duration: 3.45
