    Start Your Engines

Start Your Engines plays homage to the iconic phrase "Gentlemen, start your engines," traditionally used at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This exciting concert selection for young band features the percussion section with opportunities for doubling parts if needed. The band "revs up" right at the beginning as the opposing eighth notes in the drums evoke a race car engine at the starting line. As the piece continues, the winds have opportunities to shine in comfortable ranges with reasonable technical demands. Start Your Engines is great for helping young bands sound their best at concert and beyond.

Engines of Resistance (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Clark, Larry

Take notice! Seldom, if ever, have we heard a more musically exciting venture for beginning band. Composer Larry Clark, in a highly creative period, has developed this stunning new work. Two opposing themes resist one another. A constant motor element in the winds fights the lyrical melodic material. Each new angular theme is more forceful than the last. Percussion is a separate color opposing the winds. Unique and tightly written, with fantastic program potential! Duration: 2.30

The Air Race - Otto M. Schwarz

In 1934, the city of Melbourne celebrated its centenary and marked the occasion with the MacRobertson International Air Race. KLM's entry was its first DC-2, PH-AJU 'Uiver' (Stork), which took off on 20 October 1934. Shortly before the finish, the plane had to make an emergency landing due to poor weather conditions. The following morning, the entire town turned out to dig the aircraft out of the mud, enabling to resume its flight. Nonetheless, the distance was covered in three days, 18 hours and 17 minutes: a winning performance! This programmatic piece tells the story describing the start of the engines in bar one, the flight over the clouds, the thunderstorm, theemergency landing and many more scenes!

    Take Off - Daniel Weinberger

You take your place in an aeroplane and wait expectantly for the motors to spark into life and for the plane to taxi onto the runway. Then it's full throttle and with a roar of the engines you leave everything behind you. Below, the world is in miniature, you thrill at the freedom of flying high and take in the spectacular drama of the clouds. It's moments such as these that Daniel Weinberger has captured in music in Take Off.
