This new concert march heralds back to the early days of the oil boom in the early 1900s. Commissioned by the Glenpool High School Band, commemorating one of the early oil field discoveries (the "Glenn Pool") in Oklahoma, this march recollects the undeniable spirit of the early petroleum pioneers and oil field laborers (called "roughnecks"). The roughnecks worked long, hard hours to drill for the "black crude" which helped to define the Tulsa area as the "oil capitol of the world" for many decades. The spirited and energetic style of the march makes it a "must play" for festival competition or concert performance.

Based on a German Folk Song, STATELY MANSION is correlated to the FIRST DIVISION BAND METHOD, Level Two. It starts out in B-flat in 4/4 time with the statement of the theme in the clarinets and saxes. The key changes to E-flat with the theme in the low brass. The D.S. al Coda changes back to the original key with the theme in the clarinets and saxes, and the full band finishes the piece with fragments of the theme in the Coda.
