The Last Rose of Summer (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Beek, Wil

The Last Rose of Summer is a popular Irish folk song. The original text was written by Thomas Moore (1779-1852) and the melody is a traditional air titled The Groves of Blarney. The German composer Friedrich von Flotow (1812-1883) cleverly used this song in his opera Martha, a light-hearted, successful work that is still regularly performed. The melancholy character of The Last Rose of Summer still appeals to many people in the present day and this arrangement by Wil van der Beek certainly does justice to the beauty of the melody. A wonderful item to change the mood of any performance.Duration: 3.30

This dramatic work is performable as a stand-alone work or in tandem with the rest of the movements. All movements are now available: I. "The Irish Washerwoman" [00-83181], II. "The Minstrel Boy" [00-32547], III. "The Rakes of Mallow" [00-30836], IV. "The Wearing of the Green" [00-30835], V. "The Last Rose of Summer" [00-32545] and VI. "The Girl I Left Behind" [00-32546].

To a Wild Rose - Edward MacDowell

Edward MacDowell can be regarded as the first great American composer, although he disliked the idea of being classified as any sort of musical nationalist. He composed a large number of orchestral works but it is the charming and unpretentious suite of musical miniatures, Woodland Sketches, that has survived as his best-known work, with To a Wild Rose being the most popular. Philip Sparke has expertly arranged this simple work for concert band.

Garden of the Black Rose (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sheldon, Robert

Garden of the Black Rose evokes images of medieval times. Dark moods and colorful orchestration encourage even young players to perform with great expression and intensity. The meditative opening yields to a fast-paced theme featuring rhythmic ostinato and melodic layering. Great fun to play and a refreshing selection for concert or contest. Duration: 3.45
