Rock This Band! (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sheldon, Robert

Your beginning band can "rock out" on their very first concert with this sure-fire crowd pleaser. A catchy bass line and hand-claps start the piece, then the melody joins in, followed by a counter melody---and this all happens using only the first six notes the students have learned!

Dance of the Knights (from Romeo and Juliet) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Prokofiev, Sergei - Jones, Nathan

This publication marks the first-ever symphonic wind band edition of the Dance of the Knights, from Scene 2 Capulet's Ball of Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet. "[The ballet] led to one of the most beloved dance works in the repertory and a series of famous orchestral suites... but the celebrated legacy of Romeo and Juliet belies its tortured history: It left Prokofiev broken and emerged from a period that left many of his colleages dead." (New York Times). Nathan Jones' scoring for symphonic wind band faithfully captures the magic of the original orchestraion of this famous work, which has been heard in numerous films and TV shows, including The Simpsons, Warm Machine, Good Morning Britain and Gotham, among many others. This piece is an ideal opener or closer for intermediate to advanced band.Duration: 5.30

The Louvre, Scenes from (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Dello Joio, Norman - Longfield, Robert

Composer Norman Dello Joio (1913-2008) received an Emmy award for his 1965 score for the television program The Louvre. His concert band adaptation resulted in a five movement suite combining original material with themes by Renaissance composers such as Susato, Lully, and Cesti. In this arrangement for younger players, Robert Longfield skilfully truncates each movement and lessens the technical demands while carefully maintaining the essence of this masterful wind band repertoire classic.Duration: 6:00

Eine Kleine Klarinette Musik (Clarinet Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

A solo for solo clarinet and band featuring the well-known tune from Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik. I have always thought that Woody Herman's Golden Wedding is a great showpiece for clarinet. He takes a tune entitled La Cinquantaine by the French Romantic composer Jean Gabriel-Marie (1852 - 1928) and sets it as a big band swing piece complete with Krupa Toms. In seeking to emulate it I suddenly realised that the Rondo from Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik K.525 had very much the same character if I presented it in a minor key. It was then really just a matter of organizing the various sections, setting them in a swing manner and adding a cadenza-like passage. There is, of course, a strong connection between Mozart and the clarinet. It was fun to write and will hopefully be a fun solo vehicle for clarinettists. - Rob Wiffin. Duration: 3.30

I Colori della Gioia (Vocal (Soprano) Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan

This work for soprano and concert band was originally written for a special occasion: the wedding of one of the composer's children. It therefore matches another piece written for a similar occasion, I Shall Love But Thee. The lyrics are from the book Respiro Neve by the internationally renowned art photographer Luca Artioli, who possesses poetic talent as well. The first movement is stately and serene as where the contrasting allegro is much more dynamic and cheerful, requiring the solid high register of the singer. The conclusion is festive and radiant, partly thanks to the contribution of a piccolo trumpet! This work is a wonderful addition to the band repertoire wanting to perform with an excellent vocal soloist!Duration: 6.45

Agnus Dei (from Requiem) (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul

John Rutter's Requiem is a musical setting of parts of the Latin Requiem with added psalms and biblical verses in English, completed in 1985. This arrangement is scored for soprano, mixed choir and Concert/Wind Band. It may be performed by band alone. Five of its seven movements are based on text from the Latin Requiem Mass, while the second movement is a setting of Out of the deep (Psalm 130) and the sixth movement is an anthem The Lord is my Shepherd (Psalm 23) which Rutter had earlier written. The cello solo of the second movement is maintained, but also scored as a bassoon solo. The first movement combines the Introit and Kyrie, the third is Pie Jesu, with soprano solo. The central movement is a lively Sanctus, followed by Agnus Dei and finally Lux aeterna. In the Agnus Dei and Lux aeterna, Rutter combines the liturgical Latin text with English biblical verses. The arranger has added the tolling of the bell at the end, which can be as few or as many as may be appropriate for the occasion.

Ding Dong! Merrily on High (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

Ring in the holidays with this famous Christmas carol, Ding Dong! Merrily on High. The tune first appeared as a French dance in the 1500's. The lyrics were written by George Ratcliffe Woodward and published in 1924 in The Cambridge Carol-Book. More recently, Sir David Willcocks made an arrangement for the second book of Carols for Choirs, on which this arrangement for Concert/Wind Band is based. His original arrangement was in the key of B major, which has been modified to B-flat major to better accommodate the instruments of the band. This represents one of the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

Gabriel's Message (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

Gabriel's Message is the familiar story of Mary: Most highly favoured lady, for known a Mother thou shalt be, all generations laud and honour thee. This a cappella setting by David Willcocks is based on three or four linear parts, which have been interchangeably used to enhance this compatible arrangement for band. In addition to performing it as written, the conductor may choose a variety of family-oriented parts complete within themselves to further vary the presentation. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.
