Winds on Fire - Bert Appermont

This work was commissioned by two fanfare bands from Loksbergen and Kortenaken in Belgium, that have merged to form one single ensemble. This festive work has been constructed using two contrasting elements: a rhythmic, fast theme full of character, combined with a melodic, sensitive and slow theme. The title refers to the enthusiastic, fiery character of the opening passage, the fast section, and the renewed passion and drive that has been created due to the merging of the two bands.

    Dublin Pictures - Marc Jeanbourquin

Ireland is a multi-faceted country that has developed a popular and distinctive musical culture. The first movement of Dublin Pictures reflects Irish festivals where there is dancing and traditional beer flowing. More tranquil in its feel, the second movement illustrates the landscape that can be seen from the Ha'penny Bridge, a bridge that crosses the River Liffey in Dublin. This movement highlights the wide range of the orchestra's sound colours as the musicians' voices combine with the wind and percussion to accompany the soloist. The lively and joyful rhythms of the last movement take the listener to Temple Bar, the famous tourist quarter of the city, well knownfor its vibrant nightlife. The music's energy and virtuosic motifs are in contrast to the previous movement and provide a spirited and festive finale.Marc Jeanbourquin wrote this piece in three movements for Azimuts Brass in 2011. He then arranged it for Concert, Fanfare or Brass Band

Proud (Grutsk) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

For Concert Band, Bagpipes and Drums. This impressive work was composed for the Dutch-Friesian city of Leeuwarden, which was considered the cultural capital of Europe, 2018; the composer spent his college years in this city. This festive work for bagpipes, drums and fanfare band is based on the melody of the anthem of the province of Friesland. Proud was written for the music event, Grutsk, which is the Friesian word for proud, hence the title. Various bands have performed on five different stages across the town centre. The finale was performed in a concert held at Wilhelminaplein (Wilhelmina Square), which opened with this work. This world premiere was conducted by the composer himself. The bagpipes are optional, but advisable. As a whole, they give the composition a very special sound.Duration: 3.40

Nne Na Tatu (Windependence Concert Band - Score and Parts) - French, Daniel

Nne na Tatu (Swahili for "Four on Three") is inspired by the music of sub-Saharan Africa and other world music traditions. Like many of those traditions, Nne na Tatu is driven by relentless percussion and rhythmic-focused development. A bold, festive theme, introduced in the brass, recurs throughout and grounds the piece amidst a series of unpredictable detours - a Scottish-inspired dance in the winds, a marimba melody reminiscent of the music of the Andes - before returning in a final triumphant fanfare. Heritage - By Jerry Brubaker

Heritage was composed by Jerry Brubaker for the 150th anniversary of the New Holland Band of New Holland, Pennsylvania. This is an organization that has a rich musical heritage dating back to 1856! The work is loosely based upon several Pennsylvania Dutch folk songs. The piece begins with a fanfare that sets up a majestic march. There is a hymn-like slower section which echoes the devout nature of the people of Lancaster county. The very festive rhythmic development section is sure to please the percussion section. This work was designed to have universal audience appeal and is a must for any symphonic band program!
