    New York: 1927

A delightful Warren Barker composition that is descriptive of the hustle and bustle of New York City in the 1920's. Starting with a lively "ragtime" section, it soon segues into a "Gershwinish" blues that features the clarinets.

The TV Detectives (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

The TV Detectives brings together five of Nigel Hess's best-known television themes (Dangerfield, Campion, Wycliffe, Maigret and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates), all originally written for small-screen sleuths in whodunits that have been enjoyed by TV audiences worldwide.Dangerfield is a BBC series about a Warwickshire police surgeon, and originally starred Nigel le Vaillant, before Nigel Havers took over the lead role. Campion, also from the BBC, was based on Margery Allingham's stories of a mild-mannered 1920s gentleman detective, played by Peter Davison. Wycliffe was a long-running HTV series set in Cornwall and starred Jack Shepherd as a somewhat dour and low-key DCI - but, of course, he always solved the case! Michael Gambon starred in Granada TV's latest incarnation of the famous French detective Maigret, while Patricia Routledge played the OAP sleuth to perfection in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, another popular BBC series. For the first time these popular tunes, which conjure up their programmes perfectly, have been arranged for wind band in a continuous suite.Duration: 8.00

Pictures at an Exhibition (complete) - By Modest Mussorgsky / arr. Alfred Reed, Carl Simpson

While the original piano version of PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION remained unpublished at the time of Mussorgsky's death, the work was orchestrated by his friend Rimsky-Korsakov and published in 1886, although it remained largely obscure until Maurice Ravel's (based on the Rimsky-Korsakov) brilliant orchestration in the 1920s pushed the work into its current established and popular place in the repertoire. This present orchestration for band by Carl Simpson (edited by Alfred Reed) is entirely new and primarily based on the autograph manuscript.

Dancin' into the '20s (A Ragtime Dance Music Revue) - Arr. and scoring by Donald Hunsberger

The music included in Dancin' into the '20s has been chosen to reflect some of the styles of music and corresponding use for exhibition and social dancing during the years leading into the 1920s. Each of the works has been orchestrated for wind band from extant published orchestra music of the period. The outside one-two step movements are energetic and perhaps more brusque in nature than The Richard's Tago and the Set of Waltzes from Victor Herbert's operetta scores. Each work may be programmed individually, and hopefully, the compilation will serve as a special example of music from a by gone era in American musical and theatrical history.

Overture "1812" - By Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky / arr. Dan Godfrey

This classic Tchaikowsky work was initially transcribed for military band in the early 1920s as a part of the revered Chappell Army Band Journal. Since then, this arrangement has been on several selective music lists over the years and has been re-released with new engraving and finally includes a full score. Overture "1812" . . . as moving and exciting as ever. (14:40)
