A Celtic Celebration (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Kinyon, John

As the title suggests, this wonderful work presents three Celtic folk favorites in a very playable fashion for Grade 1 bands. Songs included are "Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes," "Wearing of the Green" and "My Wild Irish Rose." As always for the Mini-Score Series, careful attention has been given to ensure all prominent parts are doubled, allowing for any instrumental "shortcomings" one may encounter. Peer Gynt Suite (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Grieg, Edvard - Sayre, Charles

Edvard Grieg's early musical training took place in Germany, but philosophical constraints sent him back to his native Norway, where he began what is now referred to as the Norwegian School. He is best known for his Peery Gynt Suites, No. 1 & No. 2, originally written as orchestral suites and as incidental accompaniments for Ibsen's epic drama. This sparkling scoring includes Morning Mood, The Death of Ase, Anitra's Dance, and In The Hall Of The Mountain King. Duration: 5.00

March (from Jazz Suite No.2) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Shostakovich, Dmitri - De Meij, Johan

In 1938 Shostakovich composed his Second Jazz Suite at the request of the recently founded State Orchestra for Jazz conducted by Victor Knushevitsky. This suite was originally scored for a complete symphony orchestra to which four saxophones, an accordion and a guitar had been added. The Jazz Suite No.1 in three movements, composed in 1934, had been written for a smaller ensemble. The title 'Jazz Suite' is rather misleading, as the composer definitely uses the style of light music.Duration: 3:00

Blue Tango (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Anderson, Leroy

At the height of his career in the mid-1930s, Leroy Anderson began arranging for Arthur Fiedler's Boston Pops Orchestra. Later, Fiedler encouraged him to write his own tunes for the Pops. His compositions, more than 50 in number, virtually define the sound of the contemporary American pops orchestra. Blue Tango was a #1 hit in 1951, juxtaposing the charismatic melody over a traditional tango pulse. The work captured the spirit of an era. This new edition was originally arranged by the composer for concert band and has been freshly re-engraved with a full score for the first time, permitting a uniformity of articulation throughout the work. Algemiz Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

Algemesi is a town situated on the banks of the river Sucron, in the south of Valencia in Spain. Algemiz by Ferrer Ferran was inspired by two historical events connected with the town. When the Iberian peninsula was under the rule of the Romans a bloody battle took place between the armies of the generals Pompey and Sertorius known as The Battle of Sucron. Much later in the 13th century, Don Jaime 1, king of Aragon who had been defeated by the Maures d'Almenara, decided to lead an expedition to Sucron to evaluate the resistance of the Arab forces and conquer Alegmesi. This story of this expedition is told in The Dance of the Conquerors. 13:00

Analecta Varia Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

Harrie Janssen composed Analecta Varia in memory of Henk van Lijnschooten (1928-2006). He has been of great influence on the Dutch music for wind instruments. As a conductor and as a member of the jury, but above all as a prominent composer. Consists of eight sound studies that can also be performed separately. In each part a particular orchestral aspect is the central point. The eight parts 1. Choral: ensemble in monophonic texture. 2. Air: relatively free line patterns combined with a constant pulse. 3. Pavana: constant rhythmicity culminating in an orchestral tutti. 4. Lullaby: dissonant harmony above an organ point in a filigree instrumentation. 5. Chaconne: color and virtuosity combined with a rigid pasacaglian theme. 6. Interlude: antithesis woodwind/brass and followed by a synthesis of the before. 7. Fugue: ensemble in a polyphonic texture. 8. Epilogue: final canto in a preponderating strong dynamic, where a constant euphony has to be pursued. 22:00

Bread and Games Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

Panem et Circenses', Bread and Games were essential for keeping the citizens of ancient Rome in check. While the bread was meant for the poorest among the Romans, the Games were Popular Pastime Number One for everybody. There were different kinds of games, such as chariot races (especially popular with female spectators), or wild-beast fights, where lions, tigers, bulls or bears were set on one another or even on human beings. Most popular, however, were the Gladiator fights. In 'Bread and Games' William Vean depicts one of the many fights in the antique Colosseum. 1. Entrance of the Gladiators: By powerful bugle-calls the attention of the people was asked for, after which the Gladiators entered the Arena at the sound of heroic marching-music.2.Swordfight: We can hear that the fights were not mere child's play in this part.On the contrary, they were a matter of life and death and were fought accordingly.3.Mercy of the Emperor: Sometimes a wounded gladiator could be fortunate, depending on the mercy of the audience. Waving one's handkerchief meant mercy, a turned-down thumb meant no pardon. The Emperor had the right to take the final decision, but he usually complied with the wish of the majority of the public. 4.Lap of Honour: Gladiators were mainly selected among slaves, convicted criminals, or prisoners of war. Consequently, winning was very important, as it would mean fame, honour and sometimes even wealth. A lap of honour, therefore, was the winner's due reward. 06:00
