NAPOLI Variations on a Neopolitan Song (Cornet Solo with Intermediate Concert Band) - Bellstedt, Hermann - Hunsberger, Donald
Born in Germany, Hermann Bellstedt immigrated to America in 1867, where his family settled in Cincinnati. A prodigy on the cornet, he played with Patrick Gilmore as cornet soloist and assistant to the famous Ben Bolt, and, in 1904, joined the Sousa Band, playing alongside Walter Rogers and Herbert L. Clarke. Bellstedt's variations on Napoli feature the popular Neopolitan song "Finiculi, Finicula" (composed by Luigi Denza in 1880) that celebrated the funicular railway built up the side of Mt. Vesuvius in 1880. Other popular Amalfi Coast songs include "'O Solo Mio" and "Torna a Sorriento." A variety of solo textures, whimsical to intense, are demonstrated by this Donald Hunsberger arrangement dedicated to Wynton Marsalis as a part of the "Carnaval" project. A grandiose opportunity to feature your cornet or trumpet soloist! (5:45)
Alpine Echoes was composed by Basil Windsor at the turn of the last century to feature the echo cornet. It was a famous part of Harry Mortimer's repertoire when he was principal cornet of the Fodens Motor Works Band from 1925 to 1940. It is an incredibly taxing but colourful work. Grade: Medium
DUETTINO FROM 'DON GIOVANNI' (Clarinet/Bassoon or Cornet/Euphonium and Concert Band) - Mozart - Brand, Geoffrey
In this arrangement, the duettists can be either Clarinet and Bassoon or Cornet and Euphonium. The Cornet parts in the band are optional; in the version for Clarinet and Bassoon they should play only at the conductor's discretion, and according to good balance. The timpani part must at all times be played with a light touch. Here too the conductor should exercise discretion.
A gentle and reflective cornet solo written for a cornet "legend". There are no great technical demands in the solo, but musically it will demonstrate the soloist's control and ability to shape phrases. Soloist Grade 4, Band Grade 3. Duration: 3:34
Here's a superb arrangement that will put your most talented cornet players (or section) in the spotlight. John Kinyon has masterfully orchestrated the folk song 'This Old Man' into a cornet trio with a rich, full-band accompaniment. The trio writing is magnificent and each cornetist is given a short solo for even more variety. The soloists are given adequate time to rest to ensure they can make it through the entire work without tiring. Highly recommended! (Grade 1---EEstimated delivery 3-5 days

Trade Wind Silver (Medium). Simply a wonderful melody, beautifully arranged for cornet and band by Ivor Bosanko.
The melody Carnival of Venice was originally composed by Nicolo Paganini as a virtuoso showpiece for violin. Through the years, it has become a favorite for trumpet (and cornet) soloists as well as trumpet trios. Jack Bullock brings us a sparkling scoring for trio, with two sets of trio parts: one at the 'young band' level, and the other for more advanced performers. The choice is yours, and whichever way you perform it, you will have an audience-cheering hit on your hands. (2:32)Estimated delivery 3-5 days
