Vivaldi Concertante - Music by Antonio Vivaldi / arr. John Cacavas

Originally scored for two horns, strings and cembalo, this piece by Baroque favorite Antonio Vivaldi has been defitly adapted for concert band by noted composer and arranger, John Cacavas. By changing the horn parts to cornet and skillfully dividing the melodic structures between the brass and woodwinds (for example, many of the repeated 16thnote passages in the flutes and clarinets have been dovetailed, resulting in a smoother performance that captures the feel of the original string parts), Mr. Cacavas has made this work highly accessible to today's concert bands. A wonderful way to bring the bright, clear sounds of the Baroque period to your concert hall!

Star Spangled Spectacular - By George M. Cohan / arr. John Cacavas

George M. Cohan had a deep-seated patriotism, as evidenced in such songs as Over There, Yankee Doodle Boy, and You're a Grand Old Flag. His greatest song, Over There, was written in 1917 and was the most stirring song to come out of World War I. It was immensely popular and has become a classic among popular songs. For his patriotic songs, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Arranger John Cacavas (b. 1930) was chief arranger of the U.S. Army Band and twice won the Freedom Foundation's George Washington medal for his contributions to American music. He has taken a number of Cohan's greatest songs and put them into this "Spectacular" arrangement.

Two Schumann Marches - Arr. John Cacavas

Two favorite marches from Robert Schumann's Album for the Young have been tastefully arranged by John Cacavas for the young concert band. "Two Grenadiers," the stately martial ballad begins with a processional air, but offers many contrasts. A cheerful melody opens the "Soldier's March" which is scored with more transparency and emphasis on individual sections. These short marches offer a pleasant alternative for any concert program.
